Filed in: Superior Court of Washington for King County
Case number: 14-2-23016-8 SEA
Filed on: August 7, 2014
August 20, 2014, Seattle, WA — Attorney Chris Davis of Davis Law Group has filed a lawsuit on behalf of Dan and Sally Sligh for the harms and losses they suffered in the collapse of the Skagit River Bridge on May 23, 2013.
According to the complaint filed in King County Superior Court, the Slighs were injured when their vehicle went into the Skagit River after the bridge collapsed. The complaint alleges that negligent and reckless acts and omissions by the trucking company and the pilot car company caused the collapse.
The complaint alleges that the truck driver, who worked for Mullen Trucking, failed to account for the vertical clearance of the bridge while crossing with an oversized load, and did not cross in a way that would have cleared the bridge’s overhead structure. It further alleges that the pilot car driver was talking on her cell phone and was distracted, and so failed to identify the low-clearance hazard when her vehicle’s height pole struck the bridge.
The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) was not named in the lawsuit. The plaintiffs and their attorney take the position that Washington State taxpayers should not have to pay for mistakes made by the pilot car driver and the trucking company.
“Washington State taxpayers should not have to pay for mistakes made by the pilot car driver and the trucking company.”
