WA MADD Recognized as Organization’s Chapter of The Year

Posted on Oct 07, 2012

The Washington State chapter of Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) was honored at the 2012 MADD National Conference in Washington, D.C. last week when they were recognized as the organization’s Chapter of the Year. The award was presented in recognition of the hard work and dedication of the chapter’s volunteers who are working to rebuild MADD's capacity and reestablish the organization’s presence in Washington State.

Seattle DUI accident attorney Chris Davis was particularly pleased to hear about the award because his wife, MADD volunteer Mischelle Davis, was on-hand to receive the award on behalf of her teammates from MADD’s Washington State chapter.

“I am so proud of my wife Mischelle and all of the volunteers at MADD Washington,” says Davis. “I have witnessed firsthand how hard Mischelle and the other volunteers have worked over the past few years. I am so glad to see them be recognized for the work that they do.”

A recent article from the Huffington Post suggests that MADD’s hard work has helped contribute to overall safer roadways in America over the last two decades. According to that article, researchers from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recently announced that drunk driving among teenagers has declined approximately 54 percent from 1991 to 2011.

“The ability for MADD to work together with law enforcement agencies, lawmakers and other public awareness organizations has clearly made a statistical difference in removing drunk drivers from America’s roadways,” Davis added. “Each piece of the puzzle has to contribute in order to reach a mutual goal, and that’s what we have seen year after year with Mothers Against Drunk Driving.”

The small, yet proud team of Marsha Masters, Betty Skinner, Joan Davis, Stacey Rhodes, Linda Thompson and Mischelle Davis provide victim services, prevention and educational programs, law enforcement recognition, promote improved public policies and work toward increased awareness of the impaired driving problem in Washington State. The team organized Seattle’s first Walk Like MADD fundraising event in 2011 and raised more than $30,000 that year.

MADD Washington’s next Walk Like MADD event is October 13th at the Seattle Center.
