Seattle Law Firm Supports Alcohol Awareness Month

washington state drunk driving victims rights handbookSeattle, WA - Davis Law Group, P.S., a Seattle personal injury and wrongful death law firm, is announcing the availability of a new informational pamphlet entitled Washington State Drunk Driving Collision Victim Handbook which explains the legal rights of drink driving victims in Washington State. The firm is launching this free legal resource injunction with Alcohol Awareness Month.

In Washington State, 54% of all fatal motor vehicle crashes involve a driver that was under the influence of alcohol. In 2009, 265 people in Washington State lost their lives in drunk driving crashes.

"There is no such thing as a ‘drunk driving accident', said Mischelle Davis, the firm's client relations manager. "Drunken driving collisions result from carelessness or deliberate dangerous driving (driving under the influence of alcohol), not from circumstances beyond the control of the at-fault driver. Car crashes that are caused by a drunk driver are entirely avoidable."

"I see the horrible effects of drunk driving every day in my practice," said Chris Davis, founding attorney of Davis Law Group. "I see how drunk driving can result in collisions that cause serious injuries or devastate families when a loved one is killed. Victims often have no idea what the civil or criminal justice options are available. I hope this simple, easy-to-follow guide can help."

The Washington State Drunk Driving Collision Victim Handbook outlines criminal charges, civil liability and describes some of the victims can be compensated for their injuries, loss, or the death of a family member. The booklet describes how Dram Shop laws may allow a victim to impose liability on the drinking establishment (bar, restaurant, tavern, hotel, etc.) or social host that supplied the alcohol to the drunk driver. In addition it tells victims how they can apply for financial assistance through the Crime Victim Compensation Fund.

Like groups such as Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD), The National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence, and Community Anti-Drug Coalitions of America (CADCA), Davis Law Group will observe Alcohol Awareness Month by distributing educational materials through the firm's newsletter, website, blog, and social media connections. And Washington State Drunk Driving Collision Victim Handbook is available for free. Requests for the booklet can be made by calling 206-727-4000 or by visiting www.washingtonaccidentbook.com later this month.
