Spike in Seattle-Area Trampoline Park Injuries Raises Concerns

Posted on Aug 23, 2012

There are currently 18 families in the Seattle area with pending lawsuits against Sky High Sports Seattle, a trampoline facility located in Bellevue, according to a July 27 news report from CNN. In order to spread awareness about the surge in child injuries at these dangerous facilities, award-winning Seattle child injury attorney Chris Davis wants to warn parents about the inherent dangers of this booming industry.

According to CNN, there were more than 92,000 trampoline-related emergency room-treated injuries in 2010. Although the data does not indicate how many of these injuries occurred at home or at an actual trampoline park, Davis believes that the nature of the business puts all visitors at risk of serious injury.

“Trampoline parks are a relatively new concept, and therefore a majority of the public is unaware of the risks associated with them,” says Davis. “Most sports-related activity carries some level of risk, so it’s just important for parents to be aware of these risks ahead of time.”

In 2006, CNN says the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) issued a public statement which stated that “trampolines should never be used in the home environment, in routine physical education classes or in outdoor playgrounds.” The AAP confirmed that stance in a Summer Safety Tips update this year, stating that “parents should never purchase a home trampoline or allow children to use home trampolines.”

As a public service to residents of Washington State, Davis is offering his acclaimed legal guide, “Little Kids, Big Accidents: What Every Parent Should Know About Children & Accidents” for free to the child injury victims who have been hurt at these dangerous facilities.
