Davis Law Group has been retained to represent a 59-year-old homeless man in possible legal action related to a pedestrian accident that took place on October 19, 2018 at about 1 p.m. near the Airport Deli Mart on 6249 Airport Way South.

According to the police report:

“The victim had been sleeping under a blanket on the north side of the lot. A vehicle … towing a trailer, pulled into the lot from the alley to the west. As the vehicle swung wide it apparently ran over the victim.”

The report states that the driver exited the vehicle, briefly spoke to the victim, asked someone to call 911, then said that he was going to pull his vehicle around the corner and park on the street. Instead, he drove out of the lot and did not return.

The vehicle was registered to Atlas Paving, which is located nearby. Officers went to the Atlas Paving office, interviewed employees, and located the driver. The driver claimed that he left the scene because he “had only wanted a cigarette and his beer.” But given how much time had past from the time of the incident to the time that officers located the driver they determined that he had no intention of returning to the scene.

The driver was arrested for “inattention” and “hit and run.” Further investigation found that the driver had a suspended license.

When officers arrived back at the scene, the victim was “bleeding profusely from the head.” He was transported to Harborview Medical Center where he required numerous surgeries. As of February 8, 2019, he is still a patient. He suffered a permanent spinal cord injury and is partially paralyzed.
