Posted on Mar 09, 2020

The family of a 49-year-old man who died as a result of a multi-vehicle collision involving a utility trailer on Highway 2 near milepost 56 in Coles Corner, Washington on on 02-21-20 has retained attorney Chris Davis of Davis Law Group to represent them in a possible wrongful death lawsuit.

A 2004 Ford F350 truck towing a utility trailer lost control on US Highway 2 near 82nd Ave Northeast and crossed the centerline striking the driver’s side of the victim’s 2016 Toyota Tacoma pickup.

The Snohomish County Medical Examiner’s Office reported that the decedent died during transport to a local medical facility.  The cause of death was listed as blunt force injuries.

Causes of Utility Trailer Towing Accidents

Frequently drivers towing utility trailers overload their tow vehicle, trailer or both causing serious issues such as failing brakes, broken suspensions, overheated transmissions, or blown-out tires. It is important that those towing trailers know the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) limit for their vehicle and the overall towing capacity.  Additionally, they should understand the tongue weight limit which is the amount of weight that can be borne by the trailer hitch.

Evenly loading cargo and remembering to attach brake wires is critical to towing safety.  Below is a video produced by U-haul to demonstrate the dangers of uneven trailer cargo distribution.
