Olympic Hills Elementary Teacher Receives School Supplies Gift
Davis Law Group, P.S., a Seattle-based law firm, in partnership with OfficeMax, is pleased to announce that Debbie Bermet is a recipient of the Davis Law Group School Supplies Gift Program.
Ms. Bermet is a math specialist at Olympic Hills Elementary. She works with kindergartners through 5th graders on their math skills.
“My position is funded by Title I as our school has over 70% of our students on free or reduced lunch,” Ms. Bermet said.
Aside from her full-time work in the classroom, she also runs a free after school math enrichment club for 4th and 5th graders. Ms. Bermet does not receive compensation for her time spent and supplies purchased for the club.
Along with math, Ms. Bermet believes that art is a very important part of learning. She hosts an art instruction once a week to 3rd and 5th graders - personally supplying the materials for her students.
“This gets expensive but I feel it is important that they have decent supplies for their projects,” she said. “I also enjoy supplying snacks on a regular basis as most of our families are unable to do so.”
Ms. Bermet spends at least $100 a month on her students. As a floating teacher with no classroom of her own, she plans to use her award toward more bins and storage containers as well as an electric pencil sharpener.
Davis Law Group is honored to recognize Ms. Bermet for all of her hard work and for inspiring her students to be excited about learning.
Attorney Chris Davis and his wife started a program to help public school teachers get extra classroom supplies without having to spend their own money. The Davis Law Group School Supplies Gift Program gives a $100 OfficeMax gift card each week to a deserving Washington State Public school teacher and his/her class. Anyone can nominate a teacher for this program, teachers, and students, parents, and administrators.
