What makes DePuy hip replacements so dangerous?

Patients with hip complications who decided to undergo a hip replacement procedure most likely thought that DePuy's hip replacement implants would be the solution to their problems. However, the result of metal-on-metal friction has only led patients to experience more complications and suffer for long periods of time as a result.

The friction where the surface of the metal cup and ball meet has led to metal debris being released. Overtime, the debris cause a rare condition called Metallosis that makes it difficult for oxygen to reach the soft tissue surrounding the area of the replacement. The lack of Oxygen causes the deterioration and discoloration to the surrounding tissue, and the presence of metal in patients' blodstreams can result in metal toxicity, or metal poisoning.

Side Effects Can Be Minor or Serious

In minor cases, patients have had to undergo corrective surgeries to be fitted with a different type of hip replacement implant. In extreme cases, patients have been hospitalized for extended periods of time with metal poisoning and other serious illnesses, in addition to the pain and discomfort they experience caused by the defective hip implant.
