Davis Law Group has successfully negotiated a settlement on behalf of the survivor of a serious pedestrian accident that took place at the intersection of 5th Avenue Northeast and Northeast Northgate way in Seattle in 2017.
The accident happened when a westbound vehicle on NE Northgate Way attempted a legal right turn on 5th Ave NE. At the same time, a vehicle traveling eastbound on Northgate Way attempted to make a left turn onto 5th Ave. The two vehicles collided and one of the cars spun into the center median where the pedestrian accident victim was standing.
When the two crashing vehicles came to rest they struck by two other vehicles that had been stopped on 5th Avenue Northeast.
The pedestrian was trapped between two of the vehicles and had to be freed by first responders. The pedestrian was transported to Harborview Medical Center for treatment of a fractured pelvis, fractured sacrum and a leg broken in four places. These injuries required medical treatment that included multiple surgeries, rehabilitation therapy, occupational therapy, and an extended stay in a nursing facility.
Police determined that the at-fault drivers made a legal turns but had failed to make sure that traffic was completely cleared before proceeding. Both were cited.
Although the damages, harms and losses of the victims warrant a much higher settlement, unfortunately the at-fault parties were under insured and/or do not have financial resources to pay a higher settlement.
The total settlement amount was $200,000. Pemco Insurance paid $100,000 as did State Farm Insurance.
The pedestrian is on the road to recovery and thankful for the help and support provided by friends, family, first responders, healthcare workers, and the legal team at Davis Law Group.
