One man is dead, and another behind bars after a crash involving a motorcycle Wednesday in Vancouver.
Authorities arrived at the scene of the collision just after 5:00 p.m. at the corner of 47th Ave and Minnehaha St.
A man was reportedly racing a purple van and attempted to make a turn in an intersection where it was struck by the motorcycle, killing the 59-year-old man riding it.
The driver of the van is reported to have been under the influence at the time of the collisions and may be linked to multiple hit-and-run accidents prior to this one.
Drunk Driving Motorcycle Fatalities
While it is normal for summertime to see an increase in motorcycle accidents, racing, and intoxicated driving take the lives of innocent drivers and riders alike year-round.
Unfortunately, the rider in this accident was in the wrong place at the wrong time and was met by someone who appears to have made a habit of making bad choices, being linked to multiple hit-and-run accidents previously.
Accidents like this make things like personal injury protection, known as PIP, and uninsured/ underinsured motorist protection, known as UIM so beneficial for accident victims. Both PIP and UIM coverages would offer an accident victim additional funds to make a recovery from after an accident in the event that the at-fault party carries little or no insurance at all.
The amount of insurance available to an accident victim is often the deciding factor in being able to make a fair recovery after any kind of car accident, which is why Davis Law Group always recommends knowing your coverage options.
