Emergency personnel responded to the scene of a motor vehicle collision at Rainier Avenue South and South Andover Street around 9 a.m. Monday after receiving a report of a high-speed crash.
Authorities say two men suffered critical injuries after the speeding Mustang they were inside veered off the roadway, caromed off of a power pole and slammed into a parked car while the owner of the vehicle was standing right in front of it.
The Seattle man is lucky to be alive, as he was getting something from the back seat of his car when he could hear a loud noise coming his way. The speeding Mustang veered off the street and came to a halt after it crashed into Eder Cortes’ brand new Audi.
When officials arrived at the scene, they reportedly found two men inside the Mustang that caused the collision, both with life-threatening injuries. They were rushed to Harborview Medical Center immediately, but there was no available information regarding their conditions.
Bystander Lucky to Escape Crash Without Injury
The Mustang was reportedly speeding down Rainier Avenue South in the moments before the crash, and police believe the driver lost control before hitting a telephone pole. But that impact didn’t stop the car from continuing on into Cortes’ driveway.
"So I was like standing and all I hear is boom," Cortes said. "And I hear something coming very fast; I didn't even try to turn around."
The Mustang went full force through the wooden power pole and unfortunately Eder’s car stopped the crash from continuing on and causing anymore damage. Cortes was trapped between his car and the Mustang, though he escaped with only minor injuries.
“There was like just like a little space for me right there, just me and the space right there between the two cars," Cortes said.
