A man was killed in a fatal motorcycle accident on State Route 518 near Tukwila Thursday night after crashing into another vehicle.
According to KOMOnews.com, the Washington State Patrol has said that excessive speed was a factor in the crash, though they did not specify which vehicle was traveling too fast.
Reports indicate that troopers and medic crews responded to the eastbound lanes of SR 518 near the interchange with Interstate 5 just after 11:30 p.m. Thursday evening after receiving reports of a serious crash. They arrived to find a 35-year-old motorcyclist in the road with life-threatening injuries.
The man was rushed to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle where he later died of his injuries.
Police Investigation Reveals Crash Factors
WSP troopers say their investigation has determined that the motorcyclist was driving eastbound on SR 518 at a very high rate of speed when the accident occurred. Officials believe he was traveling too fast to adequately adjust to the slowed traffic and lost control of his motorcycle before crashing into the back of a Toyota Camry that had come to a stop.
The driver of the Camry was the only person present in the vehicle at the time of the collision, and she was not injured. The highway was closed at the scene for an extended period of time while officials investigated the incident and worked to determine if there were any other contributing factors.
