Trailer Debris Accident on I-90 Results in Serious Injuries

Updated on: 11/12/2019

Two people were seriously injured and hospitalized after a freak car accident on Interstate 90 in Eastern Washington Sunday.

According to the Washington State Patrol, a Chevrolet Suburban was legally stopped on the shoulder of I-90 when a camping trailer drove by. Strong crosswinds reportedly caused the trailer’s metal awning to be torn from the vehicle, which then struck the Suburban on the side of the freeway.

Laurie Shay, a 21-year-old Redmond woman, was airlifted to Central Washington Hospital with serious injuries. Another passenger from North Bend, who was not identified, was injured and also taken to a nearby hospital.
