Several Injured In Multi-Vehicle Crash Near West Seattle

Updated on: 3/7/2019

west seattle car accidentPolice say a multi-vehicle accident near West Seattle’s Delridge neighborhood resulted in serious injuries to at least two people involved Wednesday morning.

According to KOMONews.com, first-responders arrived at the scene of Sylvan Way SW near Highpoint Drive SW just after 8 a.m. after receiving multiple reports of a serious car accident.

Fire and police officials found two vehicles which appeared to have collided head-on in the middle of the roadway. Two people were trapped in one of the vehicles, and reportedly had to be extricated by emergency crews using the jaws of life.

The collision blocked all lanes of Sylvan Way for several hours while police continued to investigate the scene. Police typically attempt to recreate the scene of most serious injury accidents to determine how the collision occurred and what factors may have contributed.

There was no information regarding the condition or state of the victims injured in the collision, or about what officers believe may have caused the crash. Police did not say if they believed drugs or alcohol were factors.

Police Investigation Into An Accident May Not Be Enough

The responding police department or law enforcement agency is responsible for investigating the scene of any accident which results in serious injury or death. However, it’s important for accident victims to understand that law enforcement’s priority is to enforce the law and therefore their investigation into a car accident is more focused on determining criminal culpability, not civil liability.

When it comes to pursuing a personal injury claim after a serious auto accident, the legal issues and contributing factors that need to be investigated require a different type of investigation than the one conducted by a police officer. While police reports can be helpful in the investigation, they rarely address many of the issues that can impact a person’s ability to pursue a personal injury claim against an at-fault driver.
