Abandoned Semi Tractor Leads to Injury Collision on US 12 Near Dixie

semi tractorA man was injured Tuesday afternoon in a collision involving an abandoned semi tractor on U.S. Highway 12 in Walla Walla County, according to the Washington State Patrol. 

The incident occurred around 4 p.m. on eastbound US 12 about two miles east of Dixie. 

A 73-year-old man in a Ford Explorer SUV was heading east on US 12. The man struck a Freightliner semi tractor (a semi truck without a trailer attached) that was abandoned and partially blocking the eastbound lanes. The SUV rolled, coming to rest facing westbound on the eastbound shoulder. 

The man was injured and transported to St. Mary’s Hospital in Walla Walla. 

The incident remains under investigation.
