Man, Woman Fatally Struck By DUI Driver in Sedro-Woolley

Updated on: 2/17/2020

The Washington State Patrol (WSP) says a 30-year-old woman was arrested for DUI early Sunday morning after hitting two people with her pickup truck on State Route 20 in Sedro-Woolley.

According to news reports, a couple in their 60s had parked their vehicle in the right turn lane of eastbound SR 20 for unknown reasons just before 1 a.m. Sunday when they were struck by the 30-year-old woman in the pickup truck, who was driving in the same direction at the time.

The driver of the pickup truck was arrested at the scene for investigation of vehicular homicide and drunken driving. She was not injured in the collision, and neither were her passengers.

Benefits Of Attorney Investigations Into Fatal Crashes

Serious car accidents, particularly fatal crashes, often leave a lot of questions that can only be answered with the results of a formal investigation into the collision. Of course, the WSP will conduct a very thorough investigation into this collision to determine if there were any other contributing factors.

On the surface, one question that investigators will seek to answer is why the couple’s vehicle was parked in and “blocking the right-turn lane” of the highway, as The Seattle Times reported. One possible explanation might be that the vehicle was disabled or suffered some sort of mechanical failure.

The fact that the police cited the cause of the collision as intoxication – rather than the vehicle being in the roadway – suggests that the driver who was arrested should have been able to avoid the stalled vehicle. This report may also support a potential wrongful death claim filed by the victims’ surviving loved ones.
