Seattle Police Investigating Fatal Pedestrian Accident Near Interbay

Updated on: 11/22/2019

Seattle police officers are reportedly investigating a fatal pedestrian accident that occurred in a congested traffic area near the Interbay area on Wednesday morning.

According to news reports, the vehicle-pedestrian collision occurred at the intersection of 15th Avenue West and West Armory Way near Whole Foods. Investigators closed down one lane of 15th Avenue West to collect evidence and investigate the scene.

First responders arrived at the scene at approximately 10 a.m. and found an unidentified 66-year-old man in the roadway. Tragically, he was pronounced dead at the scene of the collision. Witnesses reported that the man was using a cane while he was crossing the street.

Investigating Liability For Pedestrian Accidents

Police are still investigating the incident to determine what factors may have contributed and establish fault for the fatality. News reports indicate that the driver stayed at the scene and was cooperative with police.

A police officer who is trained to identify impairment in drivers will typically respond to the scene of a serious pedestrian accident like this one to interview the driver and determine if drugs or alcohol may have played a role. Other officers will photograph the scene, interview witnesses, and collect other forms of evidence that may help them piece together the situation and understand exactly what happened.

These pieces of evidence are often crucial in the event that the victim’s family wishes to pursue a wrongful death claim on the victim’s behalf. Witness statements and photographic evidence can be helpful in supporting a wrongful death lawsuit and establish liability for the loss of life.
