A parent says a school bus driver’s actions hospitalized several children with concussions and sprains, according to a KHQ report.
The parent, whose children attend Sunset Elementary School in Airway Heights — part of the Cheney School District — says her kids were on the bus when an incident occurred between two students. The parent says the bus driver “brake checked,” unnecessarily and aggressively slamming on the brakes.
The brake check caused several injuries, the parent says. Some had mild concussions, some had abrasions and bruises, while others suffered muscle sprains.
The superintendent of Cheney Public Schools told KHQ that a substitute bus driver “made a poor decision to address a behavior issue.”
"We are currently investigating yesterday’s incident where a driver substituting on a route stopped the bus quickly to address a student behavior concern,” said superintendent Robert Roettger. “Based upon this incident, an aide will be placed on this bus to assist with any future behavior issues that may arise. The safety of our students is of utmost importance and we take any student safety concerns or reports seriously.”

Whether the responsible party is the government employee working for the school system (bus driver), a contracted driver, a mechanic or parts manufacturer, or another driver, your family should not be responsible for the costs associated with the bus accident.
