Original: Cory Kennedy, a professional skateboarder, crashed his vehicle last week on Vashon Island, resulting in the death of one of his passengers. He was arrested the following day on suspicion of vehicular homicide and was allegedly driving under the influence, according to the Vashon-Maury Island Beachcomber.

Kennedy, 26, was involved in the single-vehicle accident. The arresting deputy’s report states that Kennedy’s blood alcohol level was at 0.10 or 0.11 when tested by a breathalyzer. Washington’s legal limit is 0.08.

Vashon Island resident, professional skateboarder and video producer Preston Maigetter was killed in the crash. Maigetter, 45, was sitting in the front passenger seat and was not wearing a seatbelt.

According to the Beachcomber, Kennedy is a Lake Stevens native who is active in the Vashon Island skateboarding community. He is famous for his skateboarding, and has been featured in Nike advertisements in the past.

King County deputy prosecutor Shane Harrison has used Kennedy’s history of speeding to request a bail of $250,000. Kennedy has four speeding tickets in the past four years. If convicted of vehicular homicide, Kennedy could face anywhere from eight to 10 and a half years in jail.
