Pedestrian Killed Thursday Night in South Seattle

A 52-year-old man was fatally injured in a pedestrian-vehicle accident Thursday night after being struck by a car as he attempted to cross Martin Luther King Jr. Way in South Seattle.

Seattle police say the man was crossing MLK Jr. Way S at Myrtle St. just before 8 p.m. when a vehicle driving northbound on MLK Jr. Way S struck him. Reports show that the Seattle Fire Department responded to the scene of the pedestrian collision and pronounced the man dead at the scene.

The Seattle Police Department assigned a drug recognition expert to evaluate the driver of the vehicle. They said the driver exhibited no signs of being impaired and was released while investigators processed the rest of the scene. The incident remains under investigation and no information regarding potential charges against the driver was available.
