A man is in custody after striking, and killing a pedestrian along US Route-2 near the communities of Sultan and Gold Bar early Wednesday morning.
The collision took place after 1 a.m. Wednesday morning when the pedestrian who was struck and killed was walking on or adjacent to the roadway.
The driver of the Mazda RX8 who struck the pedestrian was taken into custody after the pedestrian died on the scene.
Authorities have not released a cause at this time or ruled out drugs or alcohol, and their investigation into the incident is ongoing.
Pedestrian Accidents On The Highway
With the driver arrested for Vehicular homicide, there are likely additional factors to this incident that are unknown to the public at this time regarding the cause or motivation for this collision.
While pedestrian accidents are more common in residential areas, freeway accidents, rare as they may be, are exceptionally deadly due to the high rate of speed involved on these roadways.
Without knowing what specifically lead authorities to place the driver under arrest at the scene or any other details from the collision we it is impossible to assume specifics of the case, other than a driver being cited, or charged in this case, is a clear indication of who authorities believed to be liable for the accident at the time they arrived on the scene.
The family of the victim could have a wrongful death claim as more details are released and they begin to get the victims affairs in order.
While the driver being charged makes liability appear to be less in question, the process of working out a claim with the drivers insurance is not as quick and easy.
