A nursing home owner is being charged with injuring a 92-year-old woman. It was reported in court documents that she put the elderly woman into a wheelchair against her will, which caused her pain in her arms, shoulders and back. A worker at a nursing home witnessed the incident and said that the victim was shoved into the wheelchair, just as the documents also indicate.
The owner says that he did put her in the wheelchair, but denies shoving her or causing her any harm.
Elder abuse is a real problem. Because the nursing home industry has become a multi-billion dollar business comprised of major corporations, in some facilities profitability has become more important than administering proper care. Reports state that 30% of nursing home facilities are cited for instances of abuse.
