Causes of Collisions Involving Motorcycles
Almost every collision involves some sort of negligence or the breach of a legal duty of care. And when one or more motorcycles are in the mix, the results can be serious and potentially deadly.
When a driver breaches their duty of care, they put others in danger. They violate this duty by acting and behaving recklessly, even if not intentionally.
This driving behavior often includes:
- Drugs and/or alcohol
- Driver fatigue
- Distracted driving
- Unsafe lane changes
- Blind curves
- Improper left-hand turns
- Failure to yield
When negligence causes a wreck, the at-fault party must compensate the victim for their losses. If injuries or death are involved, the driver’s insurance company should cover emergency care, medical treatment, lost wages, pain and suffering, etc. If someone was killed in the accident, eligible family members may pursue a wrongful death claim.
Protect Your Legal Rights After an Accident
It is extremely important to seek medical attention and speak with an experienced motorcycle accident attorney. In order to achieve a successful result, it is vital that you have a lawyer handling your case who has a background in representing injured riders. If you wait too long to hire a lawyer, key pieces of evidence and critical witnesses may disappear and impact the ability to win your case.
