Man Injured in Wrong-Way Collision with WSP Trooper

Updated on: 3/6/2019

WSP Arrests Drunk Driver

A man suspected of driving under the influence (DUI) was arrested after being seriously injured following a DUI collision with a Washington State Patrol (WSP) trooper Monday night on Highway 520.

According to the WSP, a state Transportation Department worker alerted troopers of a vehicle driving the wrong direction – westbound in the eastbound lanes – on the 520 bridge at around midnight. A WSP trooper was headed eastbound on the bridge and saw the car heading towards him and attempted to use his vehicle to disable the wrong-way driver.

The collision slowed down the vehicle but did not completely disable it, and the driver was able to continue on to Interstate 5. He attempted to head north in the southbound lanes of I-5 and eventually ditched the vehicle and fled on foot. After attempting to jump down a 20-foot embankment in the Wallingford area in an effort to escape, the man was arrested by Seattle police and taken to Harborview Medical Center.
