Key Safety Tips For The Fourth Of July

Updated on: 7/6/2020

Have a good time on the Fourth of July, but choose to do it safely by using the following tips.

1. Let someone else put on the show

Millions of people are injured from fireworks every year. This year, save your money and head down to your local park or look out and watch the fireworks show in your community. If you do not have a local fireworks show, head to the Seattle and watch the spectacular show put on from Gasworks Park.

2. Don't Drink and Drive

The weekend of 4th of July is the deadliest holiday weekend in the United States. This is so because of the number of people who choose to drink and drive. In fact, it is estimated that 43 percent of all car accident deaths over the 4th of July weekend are cause by alcohol use. If you are going to drink, do not drive. Period.

3. Don't leave food out

Even though Seattle probably won't have great weather for the 4th of July, many people will be having BBQs where food will likely be left out all day for whoever wants it. If any of the food items is perishable, such as potato salad, be sure that it is wrapped up and kept cold. Nothing will ruin a fireworks show like a bad case of food poisoning.
