A 25-year-old man was severely injured last week after being hit by a suspected drunk driver. He is currently recovering at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.
The accident occurred last Monday at the intersection of Columbia Center Boulevard and 4th Avenue in Kennewick.
It was reported that the victim suffered multiple leg injures, as well as a pelvic fracture, internal injuries and a small brain bleed. He was initially treated at a local hospital before being transferred to Harborview.
Police arrested the other driver for vehicular assault.
Rights of DUI Accident Victims
A case like this should be relatively straightforward, but there are never any guarantees in the field of personal injury. As long as the at-fault driver has plenty of insurance coverage, the victim should be able to receive some compensation to help pay for the cost of his medical treatment, recovery, and even lost wages from missed time at work.
Because complications can arise in even the simplest sounding cases, it is always a good idea to consult with an experienced Washington car accident lawyer. Insurance companies are notoriously difficult to deal with, often being unresponsive or uncooperative. The power an attorney has can help speed along the process.
In the event that the at-fault driver did not have ample insurance, or any insurance at all, the motorcyclist is not completely out of luck. Depending on his insurance policy, the victim may be able to receive some compensation from their own insurance company. Things like personal injury protection (PIP) and uninsured or underinsured motorist coverage (UIM) are invaluable becuase they provide so much benefit in the event that you are injured by someone whose insurance, or lack thereof, is not enough to make you whole again.
