An injured sailboat captain was rescued by the Coast Guard near Port Angeles Wednesday morning after receiving extensive and severe injuries while on board the boat.
According to the U.S. Coast Guard’s Puget Sound Sector, authorities received a mayday call from the ship “Beth” at approximately 10:30 p.m. Tuesday. At the time, the ship was approximately 13 miles west off the coast of Port Angeles.
The call indicated that the captain of the ship had received severe injuries to his back, ribs and both arms after an incident with the ship’s boom. Rescue teams on helicopter and boat were dispatched from Port Angeles to the boat’s location in the water, and they arrived just before midnight.
The man was lifted via helicopter to an awaiting medical team in Port Angeles. There is no available information about the man’s current status or the extent of his injuries.
