An ice cream truck driver was struck by a hit-and-run driver and ejected from his vehicle Wednesday night in Tacoma’s South End, according to Tacoma Police.
The incident occurred at the intersection of Pacific Avenue and 84th Street around 6:45 p.m.
The ice cream truck was heading north on Pacific Avenue when it was hit by an eastbound cargo van that ran a red light. The ice cream truck driver, a man in his 60s, was ejected from his three-wheeled vehicle and struck the cargo van.
The man was left with critical injuries and was taken to a Tacoma hospital.
The cargo van fled, but bystanders stopped him and detained him until police arrived. The mid-30s man was arrested on suspicion of vehicular assault.
Paying Medical Bills after an Accident
Treating injuries as soon as possible after an accident is a good idea. Many people hesitate to receive care after minor accidents, but sometimes serious injuries do not appear right away. You may also not realize how severe your injuries actually are.
The costs associated with medical care, ambulance rides and medication can be extremely high. The follow up treatment you may receive after a serious accident can also add to that bill.
In Washington state, the at-fault driver should pay for the victim’s medical expenses, property damage and other losses. But until the at-fault driver’s insurance pays your expenses, you must cover them yourself.
Personal Injury Attorneys and Medical Bills
It’s a common misconception that your Washington state personal injury attorney will take care of their medical bills while their case is pending. This is not true; your lawyer will not cover your medical expenses for you. Instead, they will keep track of your bills to add them as a damage in your personal injury case later.
Your Washington state personal injury attorney may be able to help you find other options to help address your bills, such as setting up financing with your medical provider.
