The most recent data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reveals that one in five fatal pedestrian accidents involve a hit-and-run driver, and 60 percent of all hit-and-run deaths are among pedestrians.
Those numbers are staggeringly high. So why do so many drivers leave the scene of an accident?
- Driving under the influence
- Panic or fear of consequences
- Driving with invalid or suspended driver’s license
- Driving an underinsured or uninsured vehicle
- Outstanding warrant
- Falling asleep behind the wheel
- Driver was talking on cell phone or texting
