A 12-year-old girl was hospitalized Thursday morning following a bicycle accident involving hit by a hit-and-run driver as she rode her bike to school in Kent.
According to Kent police, the unidentified girl was riding her bike on the sidewalk to Mill Creek Middle School at around 7:30 a.m. when she was hit by a car. The car knocked the girl to the ground and dragged her into the middle of North Central Avenue, where morning traffic is relatively busy.
Witnesses say that the driver of the vehicle fled the scene of the bicycle accident as the girl was lying in the street, but bystanders were able to take down information about the vehicle and reported it to authorities. When emergency crews arrived on the scene, they found the girl was suffering injuries to her head and torso. She was transported to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle with serious injuries, but officials said they were not life-threatening.
Police have reportedly already found the owner of the vehicle involved in the accident and are working with him to identify and contact the person responsible for this bicycle collision in Kent.
