Police suspect that driver impairment may have played a role in a fatal trucking accident that claimed the life of a tow truck driver on Interstate 5 early Tuesday morning.
According to news reports, the crash took place on I-5 just south of Porter Way at approximately 6:20 a.m. Tuesday. The driver of a tow truck was reportedly outside of his vehicle when he was struck by a semi-truck, and authorities say that the victim was pronounced dead at the scene of the collision.
Officials with the Washington State Patrol (WSP) also indicated that the semi-truck driver was arrested at the scene of the collision on suspicion of DUI.
UPDATE: just spoke with WA State Patrol. The semi-truck driver actually missed the flatbed tow truck (pictured here) and hit just the driver. They aren’t sure how that happened. Again the driver, a 65 yo man, has been arrested on suspicion of DUI. pic.twitter.com/qOoArY1oYM

Importance of A Thorough Investigation After a Trucking Accident
Proving liability is one of the most difficult challenges when it comes to pursuing a personal injury claim against a trucking company. Even in a case where the involved driver was arrested for DUI, trucking companies will stop at nothing to minimize their legal responsibility for a serious accident.
Trucking companies often have an army of lawyers and investigators ready to respond to the scene immediately after a serious accident occurs. This is why accident victims need an experienced attorney who understands the trucking companies’ playbook advocating for their interests.
