A man was killed in a multi-vehicle collision near the Ballard neighborhood of North Seattle in the late hours of Thursday evening.
According to news reports, first responders arrived at the intersection of 15th Ave NW and NW Market Street in Ballard just after midnight after receiving reports of a serious car accident. Arriving on the scene, officials found two people with what appeared to be serious injuries trapped inside of a Mazda pickup truck that had crashed into a traffic control box.
Emergency crews had to cut the roof off of the vehicle in order to rescue the people trapped inside. The driver of the pickup was pronounced dead at the scene, while the female passenger inside the truck was taken to Harborview Medical Center for treatment of serious injuries.
Witnesses Help Explain Ballard Accident
According to multiple witnesses, the Mazda pickup truck allegedly ran a red light and crashed into two other vehicles. That impact forced the pickup truck to hop the curb and crash again into the traffic control box.
The drivers of two other vehicles struck by the truck were transported to local hospitals with minor injuries. The intersection had to remain closed for several hours while road crews worked to restore power to the traffic signals, which had been disabled due to the collision.
