Driver, Passenger Killed In Violent Crash Near Federal Way

federal way crashTwo people were killed in a violent car accident in Federal Way in the early hours of Wednesday morning after the car they were traveling in lost control and crashed into some trees.

According to news reports, the crash occurred in the 800 block of SW 320th Street near the intersection of 320th and 7th Avenue SW just after 2 a.m. Two unidentified men believed to be in their late 20s or early 30s were riding in a Honda Civic at a high rate of speed when police believe the vehicle lost control and left the roadway, hitting several trees on the side of the road.

The vehicle was so badly damaged that it was essentially torn in half. Officials with South King Fire & Rescue say that the men were ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene.

Police will continue to investigate the scene and work to identify additional contributing factors to the collision, though they did indicate that alcohol played a role.

Legal Recourse For Passengers In Accidents

When a passenger is killed in a crash caused by a driver’s negligence, the passenger’s surviving family members may be able to pursue a wrongful death case against the at-fault driver. Of course, passenger injury cases can be complicated because the passenger is often a friend, family member, or acquaintance of the driver and a legal battle can be emotionally traumatizing.

However, it’s important to keep in mind that civil cases are separate from criminal cases, and therefore the outcome of a civil case does not mean that there will be any criminal consequences.

Fatal crashes often warrant an extensive investigation by the police who responded to the scene of the accident. Any time someone has been killed in a collision, it is important to identify any and all factors that may have contributed.

If the surviving family members of either of the men killed in this tragic crash decide to pursue a civil wrongful death case, the results of the police investigation will be crucial to helping establish liability for the damages and proving who should be held legally responsible.

Consulting With A Wrongful Death Attorney

Evidence can become damaged and witnesses memories can fade, so acting quickly after a fatal accident is imperative to certifying that the necessary evidence is preserved. An attorney who has experience investigating wrongful death claims can help protect victims’ legal rights and ensure that the surviving family takes all of the proper steps in pursuing a case.

Grieving the loss of a loved one has a profound impact on the surviving family members, especially if the family was dependent upon the person who has passed. Washington state law permits surviving family members of a person who has been killed as a result of negligence to pursue a claim for damages against the at-fault party.
