There are several government reward programs designed to give regular citizens incentive to report fraud against the government. Perhaps the most famous of these laws is known as the Lincoln Law. In 1863 congress passed the False Claims Act which offers a reward to citizens that bring lawsuits on behalf of the government. Those citizens that ‘blow the whistle’ on individuals or companies that defraud the government are entitled to a percentage of the recovery (recovery=money that the government gets back from the defrauder).
