A suspected DUI driver caused a serious crash Thursday night in northwest Spokane, according to the Spokane Police Department.
The incident occurred between Maple Street and Oak Street around 8:15 p.m.
The DUI driver’s orange Jeep ran a red light struck another car in the intersection of Wellesley and Ash Street. The two people in a grey car that was hit — a man and a woman — were transported to the hospital with significant injuries.
A 55-year-old woman was arrested on vehicular assault and suspicion of DUI charges.

Why a Civil Lawsuit May be Necessary
Police in Seattle, Spokane and across Washington state take DUIs seriously. If drugs or alcohol are involved in a motor vehicle accident, law enforcement and prosecutors will do everything in their power to make sure the violator is handled with the fullest extent of the law.
Punishment for DUIs may include incarceration, rehabilitation, community service, monetary fines, etc. These are all designed to make sure that these incidents do not happen again.
Unfortunately, the criminal element does nothing for the victim. While it may feel good for the victim and their family that the DUI driver was charged and convicted for their wrongdoings, that’s about the only positive.
Victims are still left with injuries, medical bills, lost wages, pain and suffering, etc. The only way victims can be compensated financially is by filing an insurance claim and/or filing a lawsuit.
