Crane in Kirkland Tips, Operator Trapped Inside

Updated on: 11/25/2019

A mobile crane tipped, trapping the operator at a construction site in Kirkland Monday morning.

This accident marks the second high profile fatal accident involving a crane this year after the crane collapse on Mercer Ave in Seattle that killed 4 people in April of this year.

Reports of the collapse came just after 8 a.m. Monday morning at the Lakeview Drive Construction sites.

The operator was extracted by emergency crews from Redmond, Kirkland and Bellevue, nearly an hour after the accident occurred.

The operator’s injuries have not been disclosed at this time and the events leading up to the tipping of the crane are still under investigation.

No other injuries have been reported.

Construction Chaos

While cranes and other large-scale construction equipment are no doubt a familiar site for anyone in the greater Seattle area, the recent string of work site accidents has to raise concerns for residents.

The April Crane Collapse came was recently found to be a result of Multiple Serious Violations of proper disassembly protocols from 3 different corporations working at the site.

While investigations continue into what caused this incident, it is important to note the difference in severity between these two incidents, while this also involved a crane toppling, the scale of the crane and the scale of the harmed caused is starkly contrasted.

At this time we have no way of knowing how injured the crane operator is, but thankfully there are still no reports of any other drivers being injured as a result.

Just last month another construction worker fell and was stuck upside down in a hole that was drilled in the ground for approximately a half hour.

And just a few days before that a construction worker was critically injured when a piece of equipment fell on top of him at the Bellevue light rail construction site.

Construction Accidents and Personal Injury Law

It is increasingly clear that the sheer number of job sites going on in this area, and the pressure for the workers to meet short deadlines on tight budgets is leading to wide spread accidents that are dangerous to both the crews working on the sites, as well as the public around these busy work areas, and eventually those who could potentially be using the projects once their finished if there are any failures.

When it comes to liability on these issues, there is no immediate answer for any of these accidents without additional information. Each accident is unique and requires an in depth looks at the facts and context surrounding it.
