Ever wanted to know how the human brain works and which functions each section of the brain are responsible for? The human brain is a truly fascinating organ, and each area of the brain controls different bodily functions and senses.
Check out the interactive animation below, which allows you to click on the various portions of the human brain and see which functions and senses they are responsible for.
Frontal Lobe
The frontal lobe – the larger area located at the front of the brain – is responsible for all of the higher-level cognitive functions of the brain. These functions include problem solving, spontaneity, memory, language, motivation, judgment, impulse control and social and sexual behavior.
Parietal Lobe
The parietal lobe, located on the top middle area of the brain, is responsible for a variety of senses and also hand-eye coordination. It also contains a specialized area that allows us to match written words with the sound of spoken language.
Occipital Lobe
The occipital lobe, which is located at the very rear of the brain, contains the primary visual cortex and is responsible for sending and receiving information to and from our eyes. It controls our ability to detect color, depth perception and physical movement.
Temporal Lobe
Finally the temporal lobe, which is located at the bottom of the brain, players a significant role in our feelings of emotions and other senses. Smell, taste, hearing and memory are controlled by the temporal lobe, and it is also responsible for aggression and sexual behavior.
