A large boat fell off a trailer and into traffic, causing a multi-vehicle collision Saturday on Highway 101 near South Bend, WA, according to the Washington State Patrol.
The incident occurred around 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 4, 2019.
Police say a large boat, secured to a trailer by rope, fell off and was hit by two vehicles. One of the vehicles was a Harley-Davidson motorcycle driven by a 33-year-old Vancouver man. He was injured and taken to Willapa Harbor Hospital in South Bend.
A Ford Edge SUV also hit the boat. Three people in that vehicle — ages 84, 79 and 78 — were also taken to the same hospital to be checked for injuries.
The pickup truck hauling the boat was driven by a 23-year-old Naselle man. Police say the rope used to secure the boat became untied and the boat fell in the southbound lanes.
Traffic was delayed for more than two hours. The incident remains under investigation.

Unsecured Load Accidents in Washington
An overloaded or improperly loaded truck or vehicle barreling down the road a dangerous and potentially deadly hazard. Making sure a load, trailer, or item on the back of a truck takes just a few minutes to properly secure, and more importantly, can prevent massive damage.
Traveling down a highway with other drivers is already challenging enough. Motorists should not have to worry about dodging rocks, debris, or unsecured loads. When these accidents cause injuries, the result can be significant harm to victims and their families.
At Davis Law Group, our attorneys hold truck drivers, trucking companies, and negligent drivers accountable for their actions in loading the trailer, flatbed, or semi truck. Drivers must exercise the highest standards of safety, particularly when a load contains dangerous or volatile material.
An attorney without trucking accident litigation experience may fail to investigate the company that actually loaded and secured the freight or cargo. An inexperienced lawyer may also not identify all the at-fault parties. The potential sources of compensation provide additional monetary sources for your economic recovery as well as additional venue choices.
If you have questions about your accident caused by a improperly secured load, or a wreck caused by something falling off a vehicle, contact Davis Law Group today for a free, no-obligation case evaluation. Our team is here to help you.
