A bicyclist was struck by a hit-and-run driver Tuesday morning in Des Moines, and police have video evidence that may help them find the driver, according to police.
The incident occurred around 10 a.m. in the area of Kent Des Moines Road and 10th Avenue South.
A 53-year-old man was treated at the scene with serious injuries and then taken to the hospital. Further information on the victim was not immediately available.
The driver that hit the bicyclist fled the scene. Police say it was a late model Nissan Sentra that struck the bicyclist from behind. But according to reports, a witness recorded the collision on their mirror camera and has provided the video footage to police.
Police believe the video will help them find the driver. Police believe that the gray Nissan Sentra is missing a passenger side mirror.
The case remains under investigation.

Bike Accidents Involving Hit-and-Run Drivers
When a car hits a bicyclist causing serious injuries, then the driver speeds off, friends, family and the community are left asking difficult questions. Unfortunately, this scenario plays out far too often across the country.
With families left to pick up the pieces after a hit-and-run driver hits a bicyclist, the next steps may be challenging. But by hiring an experienced bicycle accident lawyer in your area, you can focus on recovery and let the attorneys handle the case.
A bicycle hit-and-run is handled basically the same way an uninsured motorist claim is. Because you cannot bring a claim against the at-fault driver’s insurance company, you must look to your own insurance company to provide relief.
If you have uninsured or underinsured motorist coverage on your auto policy, you are covered for bicycle-related injuries. You might also be able to bring a bike accident claim under the auto insurance policy of another member of your house.
Obviously it is not ideal to be in this situation, no matter who is responsible for your bills. Medical expenses, lost wages, rehab costs, and pain and suffering all make for a very stressful time. By letting a legal professional handle the case, you can rest easy knowing the case is in good hands.
