A Monday morning crash along Sr-7 in Lewis County killed two drivers in their 20's according to Washington State Patrol.
According to State Trooper Will Finn, the collision took place around 8 a.m. Monday morning when one of the northbound drivers left the road.
The northbound vehicle reportedly struck a ditch before being sent back across the road where it was hit by the southbound vehicle, killing a man and woman in their 20's.
State troopers have reported that they believe speed and road conditions may have been a factor in the crash.
Additionally, a 55-year-old occupant of the southbound vehicle was reported to have been injured in the crash and was transported to an area hospital for treatment.
Legal Options After A Fatal Collision
Fatal accidents like these are devastating for the loved ones of those involved and beyond the emotional pain and trauma, can leave a grieving family in financial ruin.
Initial reporting is unclear which vehicle the victims were in, but did state that the 55-year-old was the driver of the southbound vehicle that was struck after the northbound vehicle left the road.
Whether the deceased were in the north or southbound vehicle, if one of them was a passenger they may have a wrongful death claim if a driver is determined to have acted negligently in this collision.
Additionally, if the 55-year-old driver is not found to have been at fault for the crash they may also have a claim for their injuries as well.
Understanding Negligence
In some crashes, determining negligence is as simple as a wrong way driver striking another vehicle, or a drunk driver causing a crash, but in others, it takes an in-depth investigation to determine fault after an accident.
One possible factor that could help with determining fault initially is the police report in which the responding officers may indicate if one driver was driving recklessly, speeding, or even simply driving too fast for conditions.
