Mount Vernon Hit and Run Leaves Teen Girl in Critical Condition

Updated on: 10/11/2021

A 16-year-old girl in Mount Vernon was left in critical condition after being struck by a hit-and-run driver Monday evening.

Authorities arrived on the scene at the intersection of East College Way and North 35th St around 5 p.m. to find the driver had fled the scene.

The victim was transported to Skagit Valley Hospital and eventually to Harborview Medical Center where she is currently in critical condition.

According to witnesses at the scene,  a white or silver Prius was seen leaving the scene of the accident at a high rate of speed.

Authorities have since announced that they have apprehended the suspected hit and run driver while doctors claim the the girl that was struck may struggle to ever speak again.

Legal Rights and Recovery Options For Hit-And-Run Accident Victims

Thankfully for the accident victim featured in this story, authorities were able to identify, and apprehend the hit-and-run driver responsible for her injuries, allowing a more simplified approach to recovering damages from the driver.

Hit-and-run accidents can leave victims destitute with little recourse to make a recovery from often serious injuries as a result of car crashes or pedestrian accidents

When a driver has been identified and apprehended the claim process can begin and the family or their representatives can begin contacting theinsurance company of the at fault driver.

Because this victim is a minor the family will have slightly more time to resolve their claim  before the statute of limitations expires, as minor accident victims have 3-years from the date of the incident for family to make a claim, or 3-years from their 18th birthday to make the claim personally.

Despite a potentially extended window to manage a claim accident victims should be cautious of both rushing their claim, or waiting until the last minute as you only have one opportunity to settle a personal injury claim in the state of Washington.
