Studies have shown that approximately 89 percent of all off-property dog bite/attack cases involve pit bulls. Additionally almost 60 percent of all deaths from dog attacks involve a pit bullor pit bull mix.
Many believe that the pit bull breed isn't the problem but rather the pit bull owners are to blame. However, pit bulls are more likely to be owned by those that are actively seeking an aggressive dog. Another study found that pit bull owners are significantly less likely to have their male dogs neutered which can create even more aggressive intact male pit bulls. Pit bull enthusiasts contend that any responsible owner who properly trains their pit bull will not have dog bite issues. Yet, the fact remains that when it comes to dog attacks and fatal dog bite injuries, pit bulls are responsible for the majority of the damage.
Other canine breeds are considered more dangerous and more prone to aggressive behavior and attacks, however, the combination of aggressive behavior and powerful jaws make the pit bull much more dangerous than other more aggressive breeds. This volatile mix of strength and hostility combined with an irresponsible dog owner often result in a pit bull bite incident or pit bull attack.
