Two Washington State Patrol troopers on motorcycles were riding north side-by-side Sunday morning on Highway 7 when a vehicle driven by a 72-year-old Spanaway woman attempted to turn left into the highway's southbound lane from Alder Cutoff Road.
The troopers were unable to avoid the collision.
40-year-old Trooper Willie Boxhoorn, a 14-year Patrol veteran, was rushed to Seattle's Harborview Medical Center in an ambulance, where she was treated for a broken hand.
The other rider, 37-year-old Trooper Tony Brock, an 11-year veteran, appeared to have serious injuries and was therefore airlifted to Harborview. It was later discovered that Brock suffered only facial cuts, bumps and bruises.
The Spanaway woman was taken to a Puyallup hospital, where she was quickly treated and later released.
The collision occured between 10 and 10:30 a.m. It backed up traffic significantly in both directions on Highway 7 for several hours.
