A four-vehicle crash on U.S. 2 near Snohomish Friday morning left two people seriously injured.
The accident occurred around 11:45 a.m, at Bickford Avenue. The collision shut down U.S. 2 for more than five hours.
According to officials, a 65-year-old man was driving a Dodge Durango eastbound when he veered into the westbound lane, crashing into a horse trailer that was being towed by a pick-up truck. He then crashed into another pick-up truck, and then into a semi-truck, which caught on fire.
The driver of the Durango was air-lifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, where he was later listed in critical condition. The semi-truck driver was transported to the hospital with burns. The other two drivers and the horses were not injured in the collision.
Officers are still in the process of investigating what caused the Durango driver to swerve into oncoming traffic. It is not yet known if drugs or alcohol were involved in the crash.
