Washington Elementary School Teacher Wins $100 Award

Davis Law Group, P.S.
, a Seattle-based law firm, in partnership with OfficeMax, is pleased to announce that Julie Pasma is a recipient of the Davis Law Group School Supplies Gift Program.
Ms. Pasma is a 2nd grade teacher at Washington Elementary School. Ms. Pasma was nominated for this award by her colleague Teddi Gunderson. Gunderson describes her as an incredible individual who goes above and beyond for her students.

“What makes Julie extraordinary are the smiles you see on her students’ faces when she showers them with affection and encouragement,” Gunderson said. Teacher award

Washington Elementary School is located in an economically challenged area in Kennewick, where many household environments make it difficult for students to be successful in the classroom. Ms. Pasma often brings clothes, shoes, school supplies, food and other supplies to the classroom for her children.

“For some, Julie is the only positive influence in these students’ lives,” Gunderson said. Since tests scores have become a major factor in school funding, many 'fun' classroom activities have been eliminated. However, in Ms. Pasma’s class, not a day goes by without fun. She incorporates creative activities into their daily curriculum while staying true to teaching.

Ms. Pasma spends well over $500 each year on her students and her classroom. With this award, she will buy everyday supplies that her students are unable to provide for themselves – as well as more material to keep the fun in learning.

“She has been teaching for many years and has never sought nor received any kind of recognition for all the extra things she does for her students,” Gunderson said.

Attorney Chris Davis and his wife started a program to help public school teachers get extra classroom supplies without having to spend their own money.
