Should I call the police after an auto accident?

A: Yes!  If the accident is serious enough to cause injury, the police should be called immediately.  The police officer will investigate the cause of the accident, take witness statements, and record the personal information of the other driver.

The police officer is required by law to file a report containing the details of the accident. The report will also contain the information about the other driver’s insurance company.

Often times the police report will help you prove your injury case, or at least locate the other driver if a lawsuit must be filed.
