A woman parked her vehicle in a neighborhood in the city of Burien. After exiting her vehicle she was viciously attacked by a pit bull mix. The dog had escaped its owner's gated yard. The dog jumped and locked its jaws on the woman's face. The dog severely lacerated the woman's nose and bit off the woman's lower lip. She required emergency reconstructive surgery at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. The woman's past medical bills exceeded $30,000. She will require at least 2 to 3 future reconstructive surgeries as her face continues to heal. The dog owner was insured under a $500,000 homeowner's policy issued by Farmers. However, the insurance carrier initially denied the claim by arguing that the woman had leaned over the fence where the dog was harbored. Suit was filed against the dog owner in King County Superior Court by the Davis Law Group. Soon thereafter the insurance carrier agreed to tender the $500,000 policy limits to settle the claim.
