$1,000,000 Settlement in Wrongful Death Caused by Dog Attack

A 57 year-old man (Kenneth Bock) was bitten on the finger by a 7-year-old Coonhound in Monroe, Washington.  The dog owner (Konrad Haskins) denied responsibility and alleged that Mr. Bock stuck his hand/arm inside his truck without his permission to pet the dog when the bite occurred.  The bite infected Mr. Bock with a baceterium known as capnocytophaga canimorsus sepsis that is commonly found in the saliva of cats and dogs.  Mr. Bock died 10 days later due to the infection.  The defendant argued that Mr. Bock was negligent for waiting to get medical attention when he knew his spleen had been removed years earlier (the absence of a spleen increases your chance of developing an infection).  After filing a lawsuit and commencing discovery, Davis Law Group discovered that the dog had bitten another man on the same day before Mr. Bock was bitten, and that the dog had also bitten another man six months earlier.

Note: The $1 Million settlement also includes a reduction of the lien asserted by the Department of Labor & Industries. The compromised resulted in the gross proceeds exceeding $1 Million.

Awarded: $1,000,000 Settlement for Wrongful Death after Dog Bite
