A rear-end car accident caused significant injuries to a trooper with the Washington State Patrol Tuesday morning on State Route 169 near Renton.
According to reports, the driver of a Kia was headed northbound on SR 169 at Jones Road when he crashed into the back of a trooper’s cruiser. The impact of the car accident near Renton caused the trooper’s cruiser to strike a semi-truck in front of him.
Investigators determined that the driver of the Kia was under the influence and was not paying attention to traffic when he crashed into the trooper’s car. According to police, evidence shows that the impaired driver made no attempt to apply the brakes before crashing into the trooper. Both the driver and trooper were taken to a nearby hospital to be treated for minor injuries.
Ironically, the trooper in this case was on his way to testify at a criminal DUI hearing at the time of the accident. Fortunately he was not seriously injured, and the driver of the Kia could be determined negligent and held liable in causing the officer’s injuries.
