In 2007, there were 231 alcohol-related car fatalities, according to the Washington State Traffic Safety Commission. There are more people killed in Washington State by alcohol-related accidents than are killed by guns.
The Washington State Department of Transportation's DUI Memorial Sign Program is designed to remind drivers of the dangers of drunken driving. The program places signs bearing the names of people killed in drunken-driving accidents and the words "PLEASE DON'T DRINK AND DRIVE." Today there are 126 such signs posted on Washington State highways.
Signs can be installed if the driver causing the collision was convicted of vehicular homicide because of DUI, under RCW 46.61.520, or was fatally injured and shown to be DUI based on toxicology reports.
The Davis Law Group frequently represents injured individuals who were in accidents caused by a drunk driver and families of individuals killed by drunk drivers. If you need help with a similar kind of case, please contact our office at 206-727-4000.
